Premise
A man spends a day mowing the lawn, watering the plants, and digging an invasive root out of his front yard.
He finds something that has been buried there for decades.
It makes no sound. It drains every battery in the house, and it has been listening to that house for a very long time.
Bittersweet is a first-contact story told as an audit — about a visitor that crossed the galaxy, found us, and couldn't decide whether we were worth the cost of destroying. So it asks one of us.
